About

Born from a song no one had the lyrics to.

lyrcs.ai began with a conversation in the music industry. Someone mentioned an old regional song — still loved, still played — whose lyrics were not available in the original script. Not in print, not online, not in any database.

It looked like a problem no one was interested in solving: too niche, too many languages, too little obvious upside. That is exactly what made it worth solving. Work began in August 2025, and after many iterations across scripts, dialects and decades-old recordings, lyrcs.ai launched — AI-powered transcription, transliteration, translation and time-synced alignment, built for the world's music and optimised for South Asian languages.

Vijay Basrur

Founder, lyrcs.ai

Vijay has spent over 30 years building internet, mobile and digital businesses — but independent music is where he has done his defining work. In 2012 he founded OKListen, one of India's first homegrown digital music distribution platforms, growing it to more than 4,000 independent artists including The Local Train, Prateek Kuhad and When Chai Met Toast.

In 2023, OKListen was acquired by AWAL, a Sony Music company. Vijay launched AWAL in the region and led it as Head of India & South Asia, bringing global distribution and marketing to South Asian independent artists.

lyrcs.ai is the next chapter of the same conviction: every song, in every language, deserves lyrics that can be found, read and sung along to.
